About the Pub

The Fisherman's Rest has been a Public House since 1887 and has always been known for it's community spirit. We purchased the Pub in November 2014 from Marstons so the pub is now a Free House. We hope to restore it to it's former glory by making it that centrepiece of the community once again.

The Fisherman's Rest is a Pub and not a Restaurant. Our vision was to create a traditional Ale & Wine House with a 'simple' food offering. We pride ourselves in the quality of our Real Ales and our range of Wines and Spirits. We currently have four Real Ales - three permanent and a weekly Guest Ale. Over the next few years we will be further enhancing our selection of Real Ales & Ciders, Wines and bottled Craft Beers.

As with any Traditional Pub, visitors are often looking for a quick bite to eat. We offer freshly filled Cobs (usually made to order) and boil our own Ham and roast our Beef. Our butcher comes from Newark and brings delicious Pork Pies and Sausage Rolls each week including Stilton Topped, Black Pudding Topped and his famous Huntsman Pie. We have an extensive range of Nuts and Crisps and notorious 'real' Pork Scratchings from Pig Tales Farm Shop.

Each Sunday, we offer Hot Roast Beef or Pork & Stuffing Cobs with old fashioned Home-Roast Potatoes and our famous 'drinkable' gravy. We source our Beef and Pork from Ken & Vicky Matkin's local farm at Alderwasley (in view of the pub). Our Sunday Roast cobs are served from 12.30pm until 5.00pm each Sunday and on Bank Holidays Mondays.

Our 'Saturday Night Take In' concept has proved very popular and is now available any night of the week (except when we have Events scheduled). Choose your favourite 'Take Away' meal from our selection of well chosen local Menus. Phone and place your order for delivery to the Pub. We will provide warm crockery and cutlery (and even chutney or soy sauce) and you can enjoy your favourite Balti or Chow Mein whilst drinking your chosen wine or beer in your local pub - also saves you washing up at home !!

We also cater for Events - Funeral Lunches/Teas, Birthday Parties, Christenings etc. We are expert Event organisers and guarantee a successful event - it is all about attention to detail and making it personal.

We have a very successful Skittles Team and finished 3rd in the League in our first season. We plan to ahve two teams ffor the 2016 Season which starts in April. Sunday Afternoon Skittles is very popular in the Summer when we invite all visitors to the pub to 'have a go' and have matches and competitions. We have a Darts and a Dart Board, Dominoes & Boards, Cards and real Table Skittles. We plan to build a Boules Pitch in 2016 and hope to have a Boules Team too.

We already have a packed Events Calendar which we plan to keep adding to - make sure you arrive early to get a seat when we have singers or bands booked!

When we are not running our popular events, we welcome visitors from every walk of life - real ale lovers, families visiting the area, dog walkers passing by, caravaners from the nearby Caravan Park and many more.

We (Nick and Andy) can't wait to meet you so why not come along the next time you are in the area?

See you soon!
